If you have been looking to get your hands on a quality cordless toolset, but don’t want to spend a mountain of money along the way, there’s really only one option that makes sense:
The Ryobi One Plus combo kit.
Designed to offer contractor level performance and power at a consumer-level price tag, there’s really nothing else on the market today that comes close to the Ryobi One Plus combo kit as far as versatility and value are concerned.
You get six individual tools (all of them running off of the same lithium-ion battery technology), a quick charging station, and a handful of other extras that make this a “must-have” purchase for DIYers, homeowners, and contractors looking for a great set of tools at a decent price point.
Below we dig a little bit deeper into everything you need to know in this Ryobi One Plus review.
You’ll discover what makes this kit so special, why these tools are considered some of the best in the business, what makes the batteries in this set up unique, and where this combo kit falls short, too.
Shall we get right into it?
Let’s do it!
A Deep Dive Into The Ryobi One Plus Combo Kit
You get a drill driver, an impact driver, a reciprocating saw, a circular saw, a flashlight, and a versatile multi-tool – all of which run off of the exact same battery system that powers ALL Ryobi tools.
Each of these main components is designed to provide you with contractor level performance, and the Ryobi brand has become synonymous with quality at a fair price point – even in the legitimate professional contractor world.
These aren’t cheap, knockoff kind of tools or “throwaway” tools like something from Black and Decker for example.
No, it would be a mistake to let the affordable price tag of these Ryobi tools fool you into thinking that they were anything but quality across the board.
Ever since Ryobi moved away from nickel-cadmium (NiCad) batteries in fully embraced lithium technology with their One Plus battery system people have gone crazy for these cordless power tools.
Now you’re going to get batteries that last a whole lot longer, batteries that deliver consistent power whether they have a 100% charge or a 1% charge, and batteries that are going to charge a whole lot quicker as well.
On top of all that you’ll be able to use the same batteries in every single Ryobi our tool you own – without exception.
That standardization of the powerpack for your cordless tools changes the game completely. It’s something that we dig a little deeper into in just a moment, though.
Just know that you’re going to get more than your money’s worth when you decide to go with the Ryobi One Plus combo set up.
Who’s It For?
There are really three distinct groups of people that are going to fall head over heels in love with everything that this Ryobi One Plus setup has to offer.
The first group that will flock to these cordless power tools have to be homeowners.
As a homeowner, you’re going to want to tackle as many household projects as you can without having to spend a small fortune on handymen or contractors. YouTube is absolutely flooded with tutorials to help homeowners resolve a lot of minor household issues or knock out household maintenance, and all you really need are a couple of decent power tools to help you get those jobs done.
That’s exactly what these tools are.
Well-made, powerful, easy to use, and quick to charge, they are flexible tools that you’ll be able to use to take care of all the household projects you have on a honey-do list.
The second group that will love these Ryobi One Plus combo kits are DIYers and passionate woodworking hobbyists or home project “weekend warriors”.
These are the kinds of people that are totally comfortable tearing apart a kitchen or bathroom, leaving things like electrical work and plumbing for the professionals but handling everything else from demolition to drywall (and almost everything in between).
These are also the kind of folks that are going to be looking to slap together a little more complex projects than what your traditional homeowners are willing to get into. These kinds of projects demand tools that are flexible and versatile, tools that are accurate and consistent, and (maybe above all else) tools that are reliable.
This combo set from Ryobi fits that bill perfectly.
Finally, the third group that will be able to make use of this Ryobi combo set up our contractors that don’t want to spend a mountain of money on tools from Makita or DeWalt – knowing that they are (almost always) just paying for the brand on those blue and yellow tools.
We aren’t suggesting that Ryobi cordless power tools are exact 1:1 copies of the kind of tools you’ll find from those legendary companies. That really wouldn’t be fair.
What we are saying, though, is that with this Ryobi One Plus combo kit you’re going to get 80% of the performance of those amazing tools from companies like Makita and DeWalt while paying a fraction of the price.
This is hugely advantageous for working tradesmen and contractors that know their tools are going to get beat up through everyday use on the job.
Ryobi cordless power tools have come a long way since they were first released, are a lot more durable and reliable today than ever before, and a lot less expensive to replace when something inevitably goes wrong or they inevitably burn out – just like every cordless power tool one day will.
Combine that with the universal battery approach that Ryobi has and it just makes sense to have your entire crew set up with the same brand cordless power tools. The ability to flip batteries from one charger to the next, from one guide to the next, and keeping everyone working at the same cannot go overlooked.
These cordless power tools may not be (necessarily) the most powerful or the most durable things money can buy, but for the price, there’s absolutely nothing better on the market right now.
What We Like About Ryobi One Plus Combo Kit
There’s a lot to fall in love with when it comes to the Ryobi One Plus combo kit, starting with the overall design and build quality of the tools themselves.
Each of these tools – from the drill and driver to the circular saw and everything in between – are made of high-impact materials that are durable, strong, and carefully selected to take a beating in everyday job site conditions without coming apart at the seams.
There are other power tool companies on the market that promise and promote the same kind of durability without ever being able to live up to expectations.
Ryobi and their tools do not have that problem.
These tools are also ergonomically and intelligently designed, with form factors that make them easy to get into tight spots, that makes them easy to hold and handle, and that improves your overall efficiency.
These aren’t “wooden blocks” in the hand. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
Instead, it’s quite obvious that the engineers at Ryobi really took their time to make sure that all the tools in this combo kit feel comfortable and won’t fatigue your body when you are using them. That makes a huge difference when you’re running a reciprocating saw or impact driver for hours a day!
Secondly, it’s critical that we continue to hammer home the value of the One Plus lithium-ion battery approach.
If you’ve ever had other cordless power tool sets in the past that used different batteries you know exactly how much of a headache it can be to manage everything.
For starters, not being able to grab ANY battery and slap it into your drill is a headache all on its own.
But then you add in having to run multiple chargers or multiple batteries, keeping track of where all of those chargers are and what the charge levels are like at any moment, and things become a logistical nightmare in a hurry.
With the Ryobi set, though, all of that disappears completely.
You’ll be able to use the same batteries in these cordless power tools in ANY of the cordless power tools available from Ryobi – including power tools you purchase separately outside of this kit.
Yes, you are reading that correctly.
You’ll be able to use the same lithium-ion batteries that work in your cordless drill plugged into a weed whacker, a router, a power sander, a flashlight, a job site radio, and so on – the options are (almost) limitless!
This kind of versatility just makes sense from a practical standpoint regardless of how often you’re going to be using different kinds of tools. The universal nature of these batteries also allows you to pile them up every now and again when you need new ones, adding batteries to your arsenal knowing that they are going to be able to be used across your entire tool collection.
That’s tough to beat.
Finally, we have to mention the price point.
You just will never spend as much money on Ryobi combo kits like this one that you’ll spend on tools from “premium” brands like Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Makita – but do you want to sacrifice durability or performance along the way?
Ryobi is not a company that cuts corners by cutting costs.
No, these tools may not have all the fancy bells and whistles that some of those premium options include. And no, these tools may not be right out there on the bleeding edge of cordless power tool technology as far as power and performance go, either.
But unless you are depending on these tools for your likelihood every single day the odds are pretty good you don’t need tools that powerful or that technologically advanced.
You can get away with 80% of that power (and highly modernized tech, too) inside of these Ryobi One Plus combo kits.
At the end of the day, you end up making a compromise on price without making a compromise on performance when you choose to move forward with Ryobi tools.
What We Don’t Like About Ryobi One Plus Combo Kit
Straight out of the gate, the included LED flashlight in this Ryobi One Plus combo kit is a letdown.
There’s just no way of getting around it.
Sure, it’ll serve its purpose in a pinch and it’s nice that it has a 180° swivel. But the LED isn’t all that bright, a 100% charge will only provide you with about two hours of light, and the actual flashlight itself is pretty big and pretty bulky.
Most definitely appreciate that Ryobi tossed that into the kit but it isn’t ever going to be the first flashlight that you reach for our job site unless you have no other choice.
Secondly, the reciprocating saw included in the Ryobi One Plus combo kit is primarily a demolition only reciprocating saw.
This is a tool you’re going to want to bust out when you need lots of power, need to hack through 2x4s or PVC pipe, need to rough cut out openings in plywood for windows or skylights.
There’s not a lot of speed control with the trigger system on this reciprocating saw the way there might be with something from DeWalt or Makita. You really only have 0% speed or 100% speed with a 50% speed option somewhere in the middle.
Other premium brand tools give you a little bit more control over your reciprocating saw, but again that’s likely not going to be that big of a deal for 80% or more of power tool users that are interested in the Ryobi set.
Other than that, though, there’s really not that much to be unhappy with.

Overview Of Features
As far as the features of this Ryobi One Plus combo kit go, everything revolves around the 18-volt lithium-ion battery system.
This battery system is universal across all Ryobi tools (cordless tools, anyway) and is even backward compatible with a lot of the previous generation Ryobi cordless tools – the old blue and yellow ones.
The new lithium-ion battery technology provides a lot more power, a lot more consistency, and a faster charging timeline than the previous generation nickel-cadmium (NiCad) batteries ever could.
As far as the features of the tools are concerned, the drill driver and impact driver offers speeds of up to 1600 RPM and uses a chuck that is a half-inch heavy duty system. Both weigh around three pounds in the hand and are very ergonomically designed.
The circular saw as a 5 ½ inch blade with a 10 mm arbor and operates at speeds up to 4700 RPM. It weighs 5.3 pounds and is perfect for tackling smaller projects that include ripping plywood.
The reciprocating saw as a 7/8 inch blade stroke, three individual speed settings (as mentioned earlier) all dictated by trigger control, and weighs 4.2 pounds. It’s pretty lightweight, it’s very controllable, and it’s powerful enough to rip through most anything you have to demo out.
Rounding things out you have the LED work light and the multi-tool, both of which are very flexible and adaptable to your needs. The multi-tool in specific is pretty special, particularly when you find yourself in situations where the reciprocating saw just wouldn’t work.
All things considered, there’s really quite a bit to fall in love with when it comes to the Ryobi One Plus combo kit.
Affordable with a lot of value, these tools are powerful and consistent. Reliability is never going to be a problem.
The folks that engineered these tools at Ryobi have clearly taken their time to create something very special. They feel great in the hand, they aren’t going to wear you down, and they aren’t going to make you feel like you’re handicapping your abilities tackling DIY projects (and more involved projects, too) the way other entry-level cordless tools might have.
Sure, they aren’t quite as powerful or as feature-rich as some of the more premium brand cordless tools on the market today. But they are designed to be, either.
If you’re looking for great cordless tools at an affordable price point with a universal battery system that allows you to grow your tool collection as your budget allows without having to worry about batteries, the Ryobi One Plus combo kit is a great place to start!
